What I Done Been Doin'...
August 12, 2010
Well, first of all let me say I might just cry, because I started this post this morning, and had quite a bit of jibber jabber written and some pictures too, and when I went to finish it this evening, it had somehow disappeared. I don't know how. It must have been some sort of cyber blip or something. All I know is that it made me quite discouraged.
Pair that with the intensely cerebral day I've had (i.e. I've had to use my brain a lot and I don't like it), and I'm quickly approaching some sort of emotional meltdown.
I just cain't handle it all no more.
(Sorry. When my brain gets tired my internal dialogue reverts to that of a hillbilly.)
I don't remember what I even wrote about this morning. Something or other about how my old computer died and how I really think I could actually live without a computer if it weren't just so impractical in this day and age. And how I really like to write and take pictures, so since I have a computer it only makes sense that I would blog.
There was also something about my 'real' life (non-cyber) being compared to 'oblivion', reference to my brain functioning at about 90 words per minute, and a little side note about finding my children dumping a box of tiny pasta (not a tiny box, tiny PASTA) onto one of their beds while I was trying to blog.
But I just cain't retrieve all that information for ya', I'm afeired (afraid). My little brain jerst cain't git its moter runnin' anymore taday.
I did have a ten-point list of some of the things we've been up to around these parts since the old laptop died, and because I already have the edited photos to jog my memory, I think I can manage to recreate it...
1. Went to my sister's lake cabin...

A little 4th of July celebrating. A little lake fun. A little peeing (child and puppy) in their new sandy shoreline. Good times, good times.
2. Went to visit my brother and his family...
I didn't take any pictures. Sometimes when we're visiting someone I'm hesitant to whip out my camera and start photographing them as if they're some sort of exhibit. And sometimes I have more fun if I'm not looking for photo ops. Which I did... have fun. We all did. My kids talked about his kids for weeks after, and now they're coming to spend a week with us!
3. Had a birthday party...
Miss Peaches took it upon herself to turn 2, which I don't really approve of, but am realizing I am completely helpless to stop. Where did my baby go? My pouch feels so empty. Except I'm not a marsupial and don't have a pouch. But I can't say my uterus feels so empty or else my brother will stop reading my blog. Again.
4. Watched our mammoth puppy grow at lightning speed...

Elsa is now four months old. Elsa now weighs about forty-five pounds. We are completely in love with her. She likes to lay on my carrots. The end.
5. And speaking of lightning, storm clouds approacheth...

And then they goeth away. Approacheth again. Then go away.
It has been so hot here. And humid. Muggy. We've had a few good wholloping thunderstorms this summer. We just had one blow over about two hours ago, actually. We spent a little quality time in our basement, just for good measure. You never can be too careful.
Although I resisted the air conditioning earlier in the summer, I have now completely given in to its climate controlling magic. I was realizing that the heat was making me feel rundown, and keeping the humidity out of the house just makes good sense. This week has been sweltering, but next week should be much more temperate, so open windows and chirping birdies are in our future!
6. Fought off aggressive pumpkin vines...

The pumpkin vines are attempting mutiny on our garden. And even though I love them for their amazing growth and ability to squelch out the weeds, they're getting a little too aggressive around the meeker vegetables and strawberries. (Above you can see the pumpkin vines on the right, and the strawberry plants on the left. This was taken after I moved the pumpkin vines off of them.)
7. Waited patiently for the tomatoes to ripen...

For days and weeks I trotted down to look at the tomato plants, just waiting for little tomatoes to appear. And once they appeared, I trotted down to look at the little fruits, hoping to find a ripe one. And now (as you will see from the photo in yesterday's post) they are here!
I don't know why I am more excited about the tomatoes than anyother item in our garden. I think it's because you just can't hardly get a good tomato in the store these days, so they really are a special treat. When I made my little journey to the garden and found my first ripe chocolate cherry tomato about a week ago, I savored every last taste of it. It was perfect. That one sweet little tomato made all the blood, sweat and tears that I have put into that garden worthwhile.
8. Hit the county fair circuit...

9. Started watching t.v.; stopped watching t.v....
In the absence of my computer and a slower summer daycare schedule, along with being a bit under the weather, I found myself taking note of television shows that I haven't watched in quite awhile... Indulging in a little Regis & Kelly, the morning news shows, The Bachelorette, way more cake/cupcake competition shows than I'd like to admit, even an episode or two of Project Runway. Then I realized that a vast majority of television is trivial and meaningless, and I quickly retreated.
I do likes my stories, though... General Hospital. It's my guilty pleasure, and it's so far removed from reality, so it's kind of my little mental escape. And I can't live without Dirty Jobs (which is about as real as it gets), The Good Wife, and The Next Food Network Star.
There you have it. My viewing habits exposed. I'm sure they're boring shocking.
10. And last but not least, went on a real date with my husband. Dropped the kids off at my sister's, had a nice dinner, went on a walk through the park and everything. It was a rare treat. Again, I did not take pictures. Some things are better left to memory.

Looks like a lot of great summer fun has been had in your neck of the woods. : )
I don't do a lot of tv either, but I'm hooked on Dirty Jobs only because Mike Rowe couldn't be sexier, and I love Next FN Star - Go, Aarti!
Your garden is amazing! Everytime I see your property, I want to move in with you! You don't need some farm help do you? LOL! Have a great weekend!
Michelle - I agree! Mike is pretty attractive, and I love Aarti! But I would hate to be Mike Rowe's girlfriend... Think of all the places his hands have been! Blech!
Beth - Thank you. We like it here and are so blessed to be here. Farm help... um... do you like pulling weeds? ;)
Sounds like you are having a fun summer! I know what you mean about pulling out the camera...sometimes, it's a good thing and sometimes just having fun and leaving the camera behind is a good idea. Hang in there about the whole "using up the brain" thing...I've been doing that a lot and it hurts. Today is my veg and don't think too hard day! ;)
Sound like a great summer - love the pic of the rolling storm clouds - impressive!
