We work hard. We play hard. We sleep hard.

I'm using all seeds, bulbs, time and tools at my disposal to create garden splendor around here.

The only problem is, so far everything pretty much looks like this...

Dirt.

Helloooo? Anyone growing under there?

I guess it's not so much a problem -- dirt really is quite integral to the process -- as it is an uncertainty. I put those seeds, bulbs and whatnot into the ground, cover it up, then stand there and stare at it for a few moments, thinking, "Are you really gonna grow?"

Then I give it a little sprinkle of water, say a little prayer and trot off, only to repeat the whole process again with something else.

I don't know why I'm so skeptical that the earth will indeed produce these things. After all, without any help whatsoever from me, the Good Lord has already sprouted this...

It seems He knows what He's doing, so I'm just going to trust that if He wants me to have veggies, fruit and flowers around these parts, He will provide them. I'm just the seed sower.

And sometimes waterer, when it doesn't rain.

And keeperoffofdogsthatliketolayinmyflowerbeds-er-er.

The Good Lord also sprouted these little rosebuds...

...with pretty minimal oversight on my part, and they're thriving quite wonderfully.

When they're not helping me scoop dirt into pots or watering tree stumps, they've been crazy busy with outdoor playtime.

Don't be fooled by the rocks that they got. They're still, they're still...

...completely full of the dickens.

All this fresh air... It's gone to our heads! And our lungs. And our hearts. And our nervous systems. It is gooooooood.

Inhale. Exhale. Ahhhhhhh.

And at the end of the day, when all the work and play are done...

Snoozefest.

(Some of us -- not to name names -- technically don't wait until the work and play are done, or until the end of the day, but you get the picture.)
