To Grandmother's House We Went
June 14, 2010
It's hard to believe that just a little over a year ago, a visit to grandma's house (my mother) would have involved a 700+ mile journey across five states. My, how things have changed.
Yesterday we made the significantly shorter -- 30 minute -- drive to my mom's for lunch.
My mom...
...she's good with my kids. She's good with everyone's kids. She ought to be... She and my dad created quite a lineage for themselves. If they didn't like kids, they would have had very miserable lives.
(The above picture is from Christmas, by the way; not yesterday. I didn't happen to take any pics of Mom yesterday, so had to pull one from the archives.)
Anyhow, the kids love going to her house. I'm quite sure there's nowhere else in their lives they receive quite such a sugar rush.
And it's not that there's no competition. Believe you me, my sisters dole out their share of fruit snacks and popcicles. But I feel that my mom, as the matriarch, has earned the right to boost their blood glucose levels the most.
I'm still dealing with the aftermath today.
But it was totally worth it.
We had a pleasant little lunch, of which I ate a lot. Mom made turkey in brown sauce (gravy... no one makes gravy like my mom) and potato salad. I brought a chicken salad with qwah-sahs (croissants). For dessert, strawberry sauce over vanilla ice cream. Simple and delicious.
And the kids also had popcicles.

What fun to get the kiddos out to see your family! It's sad that we have to travel so far to see my parents. But I'm thankful we have my hubby's family "close by"--3.5 hrs.
They both look like such cutehearts.
