Tinkerbell and the Mean Cowboy
November 2, 2010
Like I said yesterday, having children that are getting old enough to participate in holiday activities is just way too much fun. I may just keep bearing children until I'm 90, just so I can keep doing this year after year.
Or I could encourage my children to have their own children and become a grandmother.
Yes, that would make more sense.
The thing I love the most about Halloween this year is that they picked their own costumes. When I asked them what they wanted to be one day, Miss Peaches piped up first with, "Tinkerbell!" I'm not exactly sure why she came up with this so quickly, since they've never actually watched a show with Tinkerbell in it, and her only exposure is taking Tinkerbell vitamins. But boy did I think it was a good idea! Cute. Feasible. Easy.
Little Blue Eyes was another story. At first he wanted to be a race car. Not a race car driver; a race car. I wasn't quite sure how I could make that happen. Then he wanted to be a combine. Again, not sure how to make that happen. Then somewhere along the line, he moved onto being a doctor, and we agreed upon that. However, about a week before Halloween, he said he didn't want to be a doctor anymore. He wanted to be something 'mean'.
Not sure where he came up with that... Seeing scary Halloween costumes on t.v. maybe? Anyhow, I figured, if he wants to be 'mean', Halloween is about the only day of the year I'm going to allow him to be mean, so we rolled with it. And then, while perusing the toy section, we came across a set of toy guys and cowboy gear, and his costume of the 'Mean Cowboy' was born.
Oh yes. Very menacing.
Our game plan included about four stops, because we're well aware that all the sugar intake and overstimulation would wear them out but quick. We made the rounds from visiting one set of grandma and grandpa...

...to a fun party with games and prizes, perfect for their age group, in our little local town, where we saw more aunties, uncles and cousins...
...and then motored out to my sister's house to visit her family, where my mom met us, and which I plum forgot to take any pictures of because the sugar buzz and overstimulation were wearing me out as well.
We did, however, manage to get one decent family shot out of the evening...
I think this may be the best family photo ever taken of us. And it's not because this photo is so spectacular. It's because we never seem to take any family photos! I have to get better at that. But setting all of my photographic longings aside, it is nice to have this photo to remember a very fun family night with mom, dad, Tinkerbell and the Mean Cowboy.

Such fun postings-love the costumes. :) Great family picture!
I think that is a fabulous family pose. Definitely Chirstmas card worthy!
Mean cowboy doesn't scare me too much.
You having babies until your 90 scares me a ton more.
Looks like you all had a great time.
Don't tell him I said so, but your little cowboy looks more sweet than mean. : ) Claudia changed her mind 3 times and ended up going as a chef w/ things from her dress-up box. It was darn cute too.
What a lovely family pic, and the kids' outfits are great :-)
