This One's For The Girls
March 20, 2009
It was bestowed onto me a fun little award yesterday, by Michelle over at One Ordinary Day. It was the 'Sisterhood Award' for this site. Other awards were the 'Kreative Award' -- given to Lovin' from the Oven (could there be a cuter name?) --and the 'Honest Scrap Award' -- given to Whatever. As soon as I can, I'm going over to their sites to check them out!
(Note: My obligation is to now pass these awards on to some ladies whose blogs I enjoy. Keep reading to the end of this post to see who I give my awards to!)
Here's the thing... I was really excited about this. I know it's not like I just won a 'Bloggie' or anything, but just knowing that one person enjoys reading my ramblings enough to give me her award for it means a lot. And I have to tell you, the fact that it was the 'Sisterhood Award' means even more. If I know anything about sisterhood, or if it comes to mind when reading my writing, it's all because of these ladies...

This is my mom and sisters and me. This is one of my most FAVORITE pictures of us all together. EVER. I just love it so much. I love it because we were having such a fun family day on our family farm when it was taken. I love it because I'm not really sure how we all ended up on the trampoline together. I love it because, once we did somehow get up on that trampoline, we laughed like little school girls. I love it because I was really skinny then.
Woops. Was I not supposed to say that last part? ;)
I just love being with these gals. There's just about nothing that makes me as giddy as being able to spend a day together. I'm so excited to be moving close to them again.
Did I use the word 'love' too much? NO... I couldn't possibly use it too much, because I just LOVE them so much.
I also love these ladies...

(I must love all of you too, because I'm showing you a picture of my pregnant self.)
These lovelies are my nieces. That's right... My nieces.
I have a big family... I'm the youngest... They're the daughters of the oldest. The three of us are roughly the same age.
No, we're not Catholic.
No, none of us are adopted.
No, we're not a blended family.
Two parents, ten kids, fifteen-thousand-four-hundred-thirty-six-grand-kids.
(O.k., that last number may be a hair off...)
I'll just let you wrap your mind around that for awhile.
This was taken the morning before the baby shower for Little Blue Eyes. This was seriously one of the happiest days of my life... I got together with so many women that I love and they all gave me presents!
This picture is so representative of what it's like when we get together... We laugh! We always have. These are the two who seem to give me a case of the giggles. This is how it has always been, ever since we were little girls riding around bareback on horses together. Believe me... Nothing makes you giggle more than trotting around on a horse together, riding double. One of you gets the giggles, then the trotting makes you giggle harder... It's a viscious cycle.
Unfortunately, when we move, we will be farther apart. Sad. But I'm pretty sure we'll figure out a way to keep the love flowin'.
Then there's Thelma and Louise here...

If any women in our family were going to buck the system and drive off a cliff together, it would be these two. Again... The love, the laughs. The nights of karaoke.
When I think about these two, the word 'fortitude' comes to mind. Anyone who knows them knows exactly why this is.
And now...
(Drumroll please.)
For my own picks as to who I would like to pass on these awards!
This took me a little time to ponder, because I am falling in love with a lot of you and your blogs out there. However, when it came down to it, there's a few of you who I love to check in with every day, for one reason or another, who I really wanted to acknowledge...
Kreative Award: Brown Eyed Fox. This lady has just moved her blog over to Squarespace and it is looking good! I really love her clean lines, her beautiful photography and her poetic style of writing.
Honest Scrap Award: The Garden of Egan. This gal is an ER nurse, and I mean, who knows more about the honest state of the human condition than an ER nurse? She shares her perspective with her readers and finds the humor in bodily fluids. I just love that. I'm linking you to one post in particular that deals with just such subject matter. If you're a bit squeamish, don't read before lunch.
Sisterhood Award: Mother May I. Oh, Tracey Clark... I so admire her work over at Shutter Sisters, and the projects that she hosts on her own site, like My Best Shot Monday, that really bring bloggers together in an interactive way. Talk about promoting sisterhood!
So there's my current blog love. It's nice to be acknowledged, it's nice to acknowledge others. My cup runneth over this morning.

Wow, thank you so much! I've just had one of the roughest days I've ever had and you made my day. It's amazing to me that someone I don't know can ease my sad.
You have an adorable blog! I want my mom on a trampoline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may steal your idea!
What a fun family. My parents had big families and I loved having cousins. Unfortunately, my parents only had two of us, BORING. I can tell I am going to LOVE reading your blog1
Thank you again, you made my day.
I'm so happy to find out who you passed the blog love on to. I'm going to check out their sites next.
I love this post. I have two sisters (one of them is supposed to be my blog partner, but she is conspicuously absent most of the time!) and I am so amazingly blessed to have them. I love when we are laughing so hard that we get what we call "the ugly laugh." It's when we are laughing beyond any kind of control whatsoever and faces and smiles get all screwy and insane looking. I'm laughing out loud just thinking about it. (Think Jack Nicholson in The Shining.) LOL
Great post and I just love following your blog.

Ha, ha, ha! The ugly laugh... That's such a good term for it! Yep, we do that too. It's an ugly, beautiful thing.
