Thirty-One Days of Thankful: Friends

Last night we had some friends and their three sweet little boys over for supper. I mentioned them the other day... They are moving within the next couple of weeks to begin training for missionary work. So, it was special to have them over one more time before they leave.

I just want to say how thankful I am for these friends... When Mr. Blue Eyes and I moved back to Minnesota from Colorado, there were times I felt oddly displaced. Even though we grew up here and know more people than I could count, sometimes it felt like we were living somewhere brand new. Like anywhere, it took awhile to get settled into our routines and social lives. A couple months after we moved back, I met Adie at our church. We had just started going to the church, and I think they were pretty new also. We both had two little ones in the nursery, and both happened to be in there with them one Sunday, and started talking. I can't tell you exactly what we said or talked about, but the jist of the conversation was something like this...

Me: Hi, I'm Laura. I'm married with two kids, lived in Colorado and now we live here. How about you?

Adie: I'm Adie. I'm also married with two kids, I've lived here, here, and here; now I live here, and my husband and I are going to be missionaries.

Me: I think I like you. And you have cute hair. Let's be friends.

Adie: I think I like you too. And I like your scarf. Yes, let's be friends.

And ever since we just fell into kind of an easy friendship. As I mentioned the other day, we are both so busy, we really don't get to see each other all that much, so our friendship has been online as much as anything else, even though we only live about 30 miles apart. We have managed to get together only a few times. Last night it was a blessing to be able to host them at our home and actually lay eyeballs on each other.

And eat pie.

Here they are with their boys...

Such a lovely family.

If there were ever two people who seemed meant to be missionaries, it is these two. Jon is a skilled pilot, who is 'go go go' all the time, determined, and a lot of fun. Adie is sweet and caring, and devoted to her faith, her husband, their boys, and their future in missions.

(She also may be the single most promotional supporter of my blog. She's always telling people about it! Thanks for the p.r., Adie!)

As this month is all about being thankful around here, I had to mention how thankful we are for this family and their friendship. It is bittersweet to see them go, but we send them off with our full support and prayers. And we wait for the day, God willing, when we can all be together again.

Which is actually this Sunday, because we're all going bowling for our church Christmas party.

Hah hah.

But after that... We'll look forward to more happy get-togethers.

You really do want to see me cry don't you? ;) You are a divine inspiration in my life, you are loved and your friendship is cherished. I loved your post about trying to sum up our friendship, it is hard to recall what drew us together in conversation exactly that day, but that sounds about right. Hair and scarves! Funny how God brings people together.

And I will continue to pass on the blog link to others. Gotta share the love! ;) See you Sunday.
