The Straw...
June 22, 2010
...that finally broke the Farmer Gal's back.
That's what I'm here to tell you about.
(What does a picture of strawberry pie have to do with anything? Just be patient.)
Lately I've been under the false impression that I'm super woman. Up early, to bed late, and busy, busy, busy all the live-long day. It's been a good run. I've gotten a lot done. And thus far, despite waking up many mornings to stiff muscles and creaky joints, I've charged forward, determined to plant and dig and cook and clean and play and weed and hoe and and and and...
(Oh, the weeding and hoeing... I've pulled and hoed like never before. But it seems to be working! Slowly but surely the actual vegetables in the garden are emerging triumphant, and the weeds are diminishing. I just had to tell you that, as it is both the joy and bane of my existence.)
Anyhow, something has finally happened that has pushed me over the edge and into the land of exhaustion...
It's so stupid, I don't even want to say it...
But it's true, so I will...
I left our refridgerator open a crack by accident the other night, so yesterday I spent all my 'free' time throwing things away and cleaning it out. Then last night we went grocery shopping to replenish our supply. Luckily, there really wasn't anything in there of major value (think: t-bone steaks... you know, the ones I solemnly vowed a recipe for and still haven't gotten to?) so it wasn't such a financial blow.
However, for whatever reason, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I am exhausted!
I'm going to venture to say my exhaustion probably isn't from the fridge cleaning and grocery shopping alone, but a culmination of months of work, along with increasing heat and humidity, that have all converged just at the right time to make me sleepy.
Scratch that. I'm not just sleepy. I long for sleep. I covet it. Whenever I walk by a couch or bed or even Miss Peaches' crib, I have to fight the urge to crawl into it and lose myself completely to unconscious slumber.
Obviously I need to take a little time to re-coop, get to bed a little early and ease up on all the projects.
Today, in memory of those things that came out of my fridge and went down the drain, I thought I'd do a little run-down of recipes that have come from my fridge and went down into my belly. A few of my favorites.
(But they're all my favorites, truth be told. That's why I share them with you.)
Let's start with an appetizer...
Guacamole! Mmmm. I think I need to make some of this for moi. (After I rest up.) So fresh, so cool, so good for you. A perfect summer treat!
And for an entree...
Mushroom & Garlic Stuffed Chicken Breast with White Wine Cream Sauce. This is probably the most popular recipe here at Farmer Gal's Market. It gets a lot of traffic. And I'm happy that it does, because this chicken... It's over the top. It's a rich and savory treat. Good stuff, people. Good stuff.
And on the side...
Merlot Carrots. As I was contemplating the universe the other day, I remembered these carrots. And I wondered why I hadn't made them in awhile. 'Cause they're so good.
But you already knew that. You know I think all these recipes are delicious. Duh.
And for dessert, I gotta go with...
Lovebird Pie. (a.k.a. Strawberry Meringue Pie) Strawberries are in season now, and nothin' says 'summer' like a strawberry pie. Almost a year go, I came up with this little number. So pretty. So tasty. So sweet.
Alrighty then. I'm off to make none of these, at the present moment, and try to kick back a little (as much as one can when caring for little ones) and most likely live on frozen pizza and sandwich meat for a couple days.

Aw, that stinks. I'm having an overwhelming week too. I think we should start appreciating the siesta here, don't you?
For sure!!! I think we would all be happier; I dare to say it would revolutionize our country! ;)
I'm just coming up for air after my mini meltdown phase - you take care of yourself girl xx
