The Peach
March 10, 2011 Preamble to the post: I am here, I am here, I am here! (If you've watched/read 'Horton Hears a Who' a thousand times, as I have, you'll get that reference.) Sorry I've been so out of touch. As much as I hate to say it, I've been... so... busy. It seems to be a pattern that is developing in my life, one which I am determined to get out of. I'm so much better at being leisurely. Anyhow, sorry I've been gone so much, but hopefully not forgotten! ;)
And now we must discuss...
The Peach.
Miss Peaches.
Midge, Midgels, or Midgela, as I like to call her. I don't know why.
(No, that's not her real name.)
My girl has become more to me than my daughter. She has almost become like... an appendage.
Throughout the day, she's rarely more than fifteen feet away from me. I go in the kitchen, she goes in the kitchen. I go in the bedroom, she goes in the bedroom. I sit down in a chair, she comes and sits on me. I go to the potty, she goes...
You get the picture.
We're very close.
She had her first dance class the other day. And I couldn't be the one to take her. I could've cried. But I didn't. I just remained happy that she was getting to be in a dance class, and even more happy that one of my sisters, who she adores, got to take her...

Word on the street is that it all went down swimmingly.
Some very important things you need to know about her are these...
1. Like her brother, she has an aversion to shirts with long sleeves. Whenever I hand her a t-shirt to wear, she is excited at the lack of long sleeves, and exclaims, "It doesn't have armsleeves!" She also went through a stage where she had an aversion to any shirt that wasn't purple, which was a problem as we only had about two purple shirts. It kinda stressed me out. Thankfully she's branching out into other colors.

2. Since about a year and a half old, she's been able to say just about any word in the English language (i.e. decolletage, edamame, ibuprofen), yet she calls marshmallows, 'marshinals', and Wal-Mart is 'warmut'. (Little Blue Eyes calls it 'warmut' too.) There's nothing special about this point, other than it is something I want to remember forever.
3. Since about a year and a half old, she started talking, and has since never stopped. This causes me to think about all the times that I've talked on and on (and on) to my mother, and she never seemed to mind. I don't think anyone has ever listened to me talk like my mother has. And sometimes I even wondered why she never minded; reminded myself that even though she put up with it, it was also important for me to let her speak, and listen.
Now that I have a daughter, who happens to talk all the time, and I don't mind it... I get it. I can't explain it, but I get it.
4. Her personality is a fairly balanced combination of these three things: mother hen, a little bit princess, and a little bit fearless farm girl. I feel the following picture demonstrates this dynamic quite perfectly...
5. She is not easily manipulated and/or coerced. All I can say to that is, "Good for you, girl."
6. She's a social butterfly. If there is a group of people, particularly women, hanging around and visiting, she wants to be right there in the mix.
7. She likes to play with toys somewhat, but her favorite thing to do is hang out with our daycare babies. She reads to them, sings and dances for them, talks to them... And we love that about her.

8. She has a nervous habit of either putting her fingers in her mouth, or picking her boogers and eating them.
Just keepin' it real here.
9. When she's being silly, I also like to call her 'Goofy Talula'.
Again, I don't know why. And again, no, this is not her real name.
10. She's a huge Taylor Swift fan, and knows the titles, words and artists of more country songs than any two-year-old should know. At my family Christmas, she sang the first verse and chorus of Love Story into a turkey baster in front of the whole family.
Thankfully, so far she hasn't stuck anything into an outlet, like her brother. None the less, she makes our hearts skip a beat.

Miss Peaches,
The Kids
