The Good, the Bad and the Cleanly

One of the good things about having your house for sale is that you pretty much keep it clean all the time in case a realtor calls to do a showing.

The bad thing about having your house for sale is that you pretty much have to keep it clean all the time.

Kind of a double-edged sword.

Fortunately, there is one other good thing about showing our house to prospective buyers (in addition to the fact that they might want to buy it). It's that it forces us to go out into the world on little adventures to keep us occupied while strangers are looking through every nook and cranny of our house.

Luckily we've had a lot of showings lately (pray that it sells!). Yesterday we went for a drive and ended up on -- seriously -- the steepest road -- and it also happened to be unpaved -- we've ever been on. The good thing about these steep Colorado roads (sans guard rails) is that, usually, once you survive the slight terror of getting to the top, you are rewarded with an amazing view. We were not disappointed.

I forgot my camera, however, so I'm sorry if you are disappointed in the lack of pictures of said amazing view. I'll be better next time.

They wanted to show our house again today, so we loaded up kids and strollers and Burley and headed down to our local City Park. Even though we're mountain folk these days, City Park is one of my favorite places to go. There are a couple of nice playgrounds and a lake with a walkway around it where geese and swans and sea gulls are always hanging out. And there are always lots of people with little kids and dogs cruising around. My favorite thing about it is that it is filled with towering trees that provide shade and make it feel like it's kind of its own world.

It's a beautiful place.

Little Blue Eyes especially had a good time.

On the other hand, there was one time when we went to City Park and had a little bit less of a good time. I'll tell you about it some time.

Oh, what the heck... I'll tell you now...

It was shortly after Miss Peaches was born. She was about a month old. Mr. Blue Eyes' parents came to visit in honor of the new arrival. Despite still being in the throws of sleep deprivation and still somewhat recovering from giving birth, it had been a nice visit. We had gone to the county fair and a rodeo, a local flower garden, out to eat several times and shared meals at our house. They were having a good time playing with Little Blue Eyes and getting to know their new granddaughter. Then we decided to go to City Park.

It was a BEAUTIFUL day... The end of summer, sun shining, birds chirping... We were driving two cars, ours and theirs, because we couldn't all fit in one. We pulled up to the park and my mother-in-law and I stayed in the car for a bit, me to feed Miss Peaches and her to make a phone call. I pulled the keys out of the ignition and set them in the back seat where I was going to sit to feed her. I finished feeding her before my mother-in-law finished talking, so I got out of the car, leaving the keys on the back seat, and walked over to the playground. Soon thereafter, my mother-in-law and father-in-law, who had waited for her outside the car, came walking over as well.

Mr. Blue Eyes was going to go to our car to get something and I told him the keys were lying on the back seat and it was unlocked. At that point, my father-in-law informed us that he had locked our car when they walked away from it, thinking I had the keys with me. Not only were the keys in the car, but also our cell phone, their cell phone in my mother-in-law's purse, and Miss Peaches' car seat.

Being that we live about 50 minutes from town, an extra set of keys was not a handy option. Luckily, we also had the in-law's car. Unluckily, we couldn't all fit in it, and we especially didn't want to transport Miss Peaches without her car seat, and storm clouds were forming on the horizon...

Oh, you know what? I'm getting sleepy. Check in tomorrow and I'll tell you the rest of the story.

When you gotta sleep, you gotta sleep. That's our motto, anyway.

for some reason my email isn't working right now and I had a bang-up idea! the open casting call for 'Can You Duet' is March 7, what do you say we hop a flight to Nashville - we won't have to pay for a hotel, because I could get a hold of Chad and we could stay at his parent's place - we get there a day or so early, pick a song off the list and practice while our husbands entertain the kiddies -

think of how blog-worthy that adventure would be - even better than moving to CO!

I'm totally pumped - we should do it!

Um, I thought I just read a post over on your site, Catch Me Cowboy, about your aversion to reality t.v. Is someone singing a new tune?

Remember that night -- back before we were mothers and were slightly more open to indulging in a libation or two -- when we scribbled the songs we were going to do on our remake album on a bar napkin? Do you still have that napkin? That was good stuff.

We usually end up taking weekend drives to avoid cleaning, not house hunters, but the exploring is just as exciting (even if the homecoming is less so!).

CYD is the ONLY reality TV I enjoy - I'm tellin' ya, we could be big! Heck yeah I have that napkin - in the box that has the ticket to the Circuit Finals where I met Coy and the napkin he wrote my phone # on - napkins are an under-appreciated medium on which to communicate.

If we don't book our flight this time, we'll have to plan for next year...
