The Fashion of the Day
April 27, 2010 If you stopped in yesterday, you may have read my post about the Old Fashioned Sunday service we attended last week. At the end of that post, I showed you a picture of this lovely woman...
In my opinion, she clearly won the fashion competition of the whole event.
Even if there really wasn't a fashion competition.
Even if the idea of there being any sort of fashion competition only existed in my head.
And now on my website.
She wins.
I don't know if you would really even consider that hat 'old fashioned', but anyone bold enough to wear red with that much confidence wins.
She wins.
But there were other hats, so many others, that bear honorable mention...
Fannie Lee Holdingford and Daisy Mae Lubbock donned some fishnet covered numbers.
(These are two of my sisters, by the way.)
(And their names aren't really 'Fannie' and 'Daisy'.)
(Real names witheld to protect... me.)
(And is that a Coors box in the background? In the church basement? Hmmmmm.)
Looking back, it was only a matter of time before fishnets migrated their way down to the legs.
These two ladies were a vision in their coordinating seperates... Hats and shawls.
Very fashion foward.
The hat (or feather/fishnet head adornment... or whatever you call it) on the right was also one of my favorites. Love the feathery swirl. She also had on a gorgeous lime green, silky, flowy dress. The ensemble reminded me of Montana, circa 1940. Very A River Runs Through It. Brilliant.
(I, on the other hand, went more the route of 'grandma chic'. Or maybe it was just 'grandma'. We'll discuss that tomorrow.)
And last but not least, another favorite...
I saw this spectacular feather adornment and immediately piped up, "Ooooo... Let me take a picture of your hat!"
The good woman smiled and said, "I'm not going to end up in a newspaper, am I?"
I grinned slyly and said, "No, I won't be putting your picture in the newspaper."
