The Anti-Sap Post

This week I will continue with a couple more posts about the early years of my relationship with Mr. Blue Eyes. I've got a few loose ends to wrap up before I get back to my usual rambling. I guess I could write for years about all the time we've been together, but I think it's best to put the subject to rest for awhile. Let our love story ruminate within your gullet. And after all, I can't give it all away too quickly... Wouldn't want you to not buy the perverbial cow (a.k.a. me) if you got all the milk (a.k.a. all my stories) for free, would I?

And frankly, I miss the rambling. The randomness of it. The non-sensical way it flows out of my soul. There's something wonderful and strange about it.

Anyhow, for today, this supposedly most romantic of all days, I felt there were things needed to know.

Like what?

Like how we spent our day today.

Why?

I'm glad you asked. Let me present you with my five-point list...

  • You need to know these things because you need to know that I don't sit around all day, fantasizing about the details of when, where and how Mr. Blue Eyes and I met.
  • You need to know these things because you need to know that we are not lovestruck saps who sit around and write each other love letters and are lost in our own love story.
  • You need to know these things because you need to know that we are far from living any sort of fairy tale. (This will become more evident in just a bit.)
  • You need to know that the best moments of our life together happen in the quiet moments when we can simply be together. Soft. Quiet. Together.
  • You need to know that I wouldn't trade a minute of our past for where I am right now, right here, with him today.

This last point becomes more poignent when I tell you about our day...

The morning began innocently enough, with flowers and chocolate, Sunday school and church, and Pizza Hut for lunch. We then drove to a neighboring town to get groceries, and on the way we discussed the ins and outs of our septic system.

Nothing says romance like the words 'leach field'.

While shopping we each bought ourselves a pair of sweatpants.

Sexy? You betcha.

We returned home to happen upon one of our dogs happily munching on a chunk of frozen horse poop, only to regurgitate it again.

Lovely.

I did manage to make us a decadent supper of shrimp alfredo and sauteed asparagus, we just popped a bottle of sparkling grape juice and are now watching the Olympics with the kids. If there's anything that can take away the image of puked-up poop, figure skating has got to be it.

Maybe there was no candle-lit dinner at a swank restaurant or a night away at a B&B, but you know what?

I love it.

I do.

Sigh.

But wait. Mr. Blue Eyes turned the channel... Now it's a nature show. And the wolves...

The wolves...

The wolves, no, they're...

They're...

They're killing the elk. And now they're eating it. No! No!!!!!!!

The canine kingdom has been cruel to my psyche today.

"Um, could you turn it back to the people in the sequins, please?"
