Storm Clouds Over Bisbee

Anyone know what that line is from? Storm clouds over Bisbee?

It's one of Mr. Blue Eyes' favorite movies.

Along with 'The Notebook'.

I'll give you a hint... The movie this line is from -- storm clouds over Bisbee -- is considerably more... (ahem)... manly and rugged.

We had storm clouds overhead yesterday. I did not like it. Yet I kind of did. It's in perfect keeping with my inner dialogue of peaceful bliss vs. hyperventilation. On one hand, I'm terrified at the thought of a tornado hitting our farm (or anyone else's farm, for that matter.) But on the other hand, I find watching the power of a storm beautiful and mesmerizing.

These pictures are of a storm that hovered to the north of us and provided a nice little rain.

This picture... Same storm. Again, to the north. If I had seen this low hanging cloud to the west or south, we would've headed to the basement.

The next line of storms, however, came at us more strongly. The wind quickly picked up (and changed direction... I took this not to be a good sign) and we were very quickly hit with some torrential rain. If you look closely at the picture above, you can see the rain coming down, particularly on the left where one of our gutters must be plugged.

Burley and Elsa were cowering at the door, so I let them in, and we all headed to the basement. Burley first went under the table, then went to our basement bathroom, which is where I have decided we will go in the event of a tornado. When I found him in there, I wondered if he was trying to tell me something.

Burley's not a nervous dog. He's a smart dog, and he protects our family. When he speaks, I listen.

These storms did go on to do some straight-line wind damage, as well as have some tornadic activity, AND some huge hail (I heard a report of 4 1/4 inches!). I can just tell you one thing... Both the dogs and the horses knew it. Their behavior was different than when in an average storm. They were more agitated. Attentive. Watching them was as interesting as watching the storm itself.

Thankfully, we came out of it with only some heavy rain. All is well that ends well.

Until the next round comes at us tonight.

I'll keep you posted!

Wow, this a bit nerve-wracking!
I love the pictures though.
It is just a taste of humble pie isn't it?

Glad to hear that you are okay - that dark sky looks threatening. We've been seeing some tornado footage on our news of late - are you in that zone?

I'm glad you're all alright! I used to hate those storms when we were living in Kansas. The second I heard thunder I used to want to bolt toward the basement! We'll be praying the storms don't cause any major damage. Stay safe!

Tauna - Well put! It is good to be reminded how small we are.

Cate - I'm not sure what areas you've seen, but yes... There have been some tornadoes around here. I think most of the damage sustained over the weekend was from straight-line winds and hail, however. Our forecast for the next few days is all clear. Yay!

Rayleigh's Mom - Even though the storms around here can be nasty every once in awhile, the scariest storms I've been in were when traveling through Oklahoma and Kansas. Down there it's on a whole other level! Yikes!
