Snow on a Burley

It'sh shnowing.

(If you've ever watched Horton Hears a Who, you might remember the Who-Scientist-Lady, who has a bit of a lisp and adds an 'h' to her 's's, especially when she says the phrase, "It'sh shnowing." Ever since I saw that movie, I can't say, "It's snowing," without adding an 'h'. In case you wanted to know. Otherwise, please disregard this public service announcement.)

So, as I said, it'sh shnowing.

Again.

And we're having a snow day.

Again.

(Just in case you live in Panama or some other such tropical region that doesn't experience 'snow days', let me explain... 'Snow days' are days when the winter weather is too dangerous -- snowing, blowing, blizzard, etc. -- to be transporting kids to and from school on the busses, so they call off school. When this happens, we parents and kiddos stay home, make snow angels, sip hot chocolate while wearing our plaid pajamas, and watch movies. Today, in our case, it's Bedknobs and Broomsticks. This is just a generalization, of course. Not everyone sips hot chocolate. Some enjoy a hot apple cider instead. And some people prefer polk-a-dots over plaid. In case you wanted to know. Otherwise, please disregard this public service announcement.)

(I'm feeling particularly publicly serving today. In case you wanted to know. Otherwise, please disregard this public service announcement.)

Okay, I'm done now. No more public service announcements, I promise.

Getting back to the snow day... To me, the enduring winter weather feels just a bit easier to bear today, as we had some balmy 20+ degree temps last week. It gave us a taste, however small, of the springtime that is to come. Also, Cate left me a comment saying that they had a bit of a chill in New Zealand, which means their autumn is on the way. Which means our springtime is on the way, being on opposite ends of the globe and all. Thanks for the encouragement, Cate!

This morning I saw the horses frolicking around, so I threw on my boots and coat quickly and tromped out to catch a few pictures. Got this one...

And this one...

But my favorites were of the snowflakes on Burley.

He just looked so pretty, all dusted with new snow.

That is the one good thing about new snow... It is prettier than the old snow that has been lying around for awhile, getting all dirty and -- ahem -- yellowed.

This one reminds me of the movie Charlotte's Web, when Wilbur lifts his snout to the air and feels his first snowflake.

I'm also being reminded perhaps I have access to too many children's movies. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But it's neither here nor there. Just an observation.

Not a public service announcement. You're welcome.

All I really wanted to say is, it'sh shnowing. Again.

In case you wanted to shknow.

Otherwise, pleash dishregard thish public shervish announshment.

I'm going to stop writing now.

yup, snowy doggies, a familiar sight these last few months. it seems that your neck of the mn woods, has gotten more snow than we have to the north of you a bit. the area schools are sending kids home early today, but so far not our school. when the roads are bad and the wind is kicking up, i would just as soon have them home with me. stay warm!!

I love your pictures! What I wouldn't do to be in the country in the snow rather than here in the city with the snow. Yuck. And PS- access to children's movies is what life is truly all about. Hakuna Matata. =)

Thanks for being all publicy servicey! I do believe it's important to inform all those who are reading what a schnow day is, cuz for some it's too unbelievable to ...well, believe!
AND of course, it's nice to be public serviced about the movies that you're quoting from. I needed the reminder since my old brain has forgotten some of those old good ones!

Yes, Burley looks good wearing his snow covered fur coat.
The horses look pretty content with the snow as well.

I am ready for some dirt though.
I have miles to go before I sleep get some.

We have had a lot of snow here this year. This week we had snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain which all turned to ice overnight. Not fun. I am looking forward to spring.

Your dog and horses look gorgeous with their "snow coat". Our husky loves this weather. She spends as much time as she can running through it and laying in it.

I've been reminding myself that February is a short month, so that means March will be here before we know it--Spring is right around the corner! <Big happy grin! >
