Shovin Em Out deh Doh
December 16, 2010
Winter just isn't the most comfortable time of year for anyone, but especially not so if you're a dog. Or a horse. Or any other animal that lives outdoors.
Day by day I trot down to the garage several times and let the dogs out for their potty break. The way things have been lately, that's about all it amounts to... A quick spin around the yard, a quick yellowing of the snow, and then they're begging to come back in.
It's just no kind of life.
So it's a good thing that dogs are so prone to spend large portions of the day napping.
However, since today was about as balmy as it gets for this time of year (around 20 degrees), I forced them to stay out awhile and play. I felt like a mother bundling up her kids and telling them to go build a snow fort.
Except the dogs don't get bundled. They run naked.
Hairy, but naked.
And they don't build snow forts.
They find other things to do.
But otherwise my analogy is spot on.
The good news is, after the blizzard and terribly low temperatures that spanned the past week, 20 degrees actually does feel somewhat balmy. I think we are all broken in to handling the winter. And after a dusting of fluffy, powdery snow last night, it was just the kind of winter wonderland day that felt right for playing outside.
At least this is what I tell myself as I shove the hairy naked ones out the door.

I'm hoping they agree.

I am just imagining your nekked dogs making yellow snow.
Thanks for that.
Those have been some seriously cold days. I have been watching your weather warnings. Brrrrrrrrr.
Thanks for giving me a chuckle today...needed it! :)
Very cool pics! Just don't make snowballls out of the yellow snow....
