Rount Mushmore or bust!

We're struggling with the stomach flu here today, so despite my queasiness, I'm going to try to accomplish a post about our little side trip to Mount Rushmore on the way home from Nebraska.

Please don't mind if I burp every once in awhile.

It helps.

(I suppose I could write this whole post and not let on about the whole stomach flu thing, but it's just in my nature to let you in on the truth of things, in the here and now. It's just how I roll. And it'd sure would be nice if you would roll with me.)

So, Mount Rushmore...

It was really cool!

Even though we only live one state away, I've never been there. I've been very close to it several times, but never actually had time to stop. Since it wasn't very much out of the way for us, and we knew we would need to stop and let the kiddos out to stretch their legs anyway, we thought we might as well take in the national sculpture.

I found the best way to get the kids to take a decent picture while we were there was to have them yell, "Mount Rushmore or bust!"

It came out like this...

Little Blue Eyes: "Mount Rush!"

Miss Peaches: "Rount Mushmore or butht!

It would have been fun to spend more time to explore other things in the area, but since the kids are still pretty small, we figured we could go back in a few years when they would be able to enjoy it a little more.

We made the most of our short time there by hiking around the Presidential Trail. It was a great way to burn off a little steam before our long drive home, and we enjoyed the beautifully maintained park.

(By the way, the kids were GREAT little travelers!)

I kind of had to pinch myself a few times on our trip. I told Mr. Blue Eyes, "We're doing it. We're actually taking a family vacation." It seems like we've been so busy in the last few years, with moving and having small children, and working, that we have never been able to manage more than a short day-trip getaway. It was awesome to be able to enjoy a family vacation for a whole four days!

(I realize four days doesn't seem long to some of you... But for us, it was great!)

Hmmm... I wonder where we'll vacation next...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that last picture!
They are so stinkin' cute.
Tell ya what, you drop them off anytime and you can have a longer vacation.

I've never been to Mt. Mushmore, but these pictures make me want to go!

So glad you could get away. 4 days is HUGE!
Sorry about the flu bug thing. Not fun.

I love your photos! Most of the family vacations we took when the kids were little, were camping. I've never been to Mt. Rushmore either. I haven't even been to the Grand Canyon yet (and it is only one state over from us!) Hope you guys are over the flu bug.
