Relationships Are Complicated... Or are they?
May 10, 2010
From the looks of things, you'd think these two were not all that fond of one another.
In fact, you almost think...
...that they hated one another.
But truth be told, it's all just a game. As serious as it looks, this is their way of playing.
You might also think, at first glance, that the hefty canine creature is the instigator of such altercations.
But don't be fooled.
Because even though he does initiate things a majority of the time, the horses aren't completely innocent either.
They provoke.
They taunt.
They intrude upon private moments that should never be intruded upon.

So no one is innocent.
Yet no one is to blame.
And even though there are moments it can look downright scary...
...everyone remains friends.
What do your relationships look like? Are they complicated or simple? Is your communication straight forward? (As in, horse saying to dog, "If you nip me in the heels one more time I will kick you in the head.") Or is your communication more of a 'read between the lines' kind of thing? Do you prefer muffins or danishes?
(That last question is unrelated, yet I find myself longing to know your answer.)
(You might notice how I have sharply veered the conversation around here away from babies. It's not by accident.)
Please chime in! I'd like to delve into something with a little more substance than the interactions of farm animals.
Although if you do have farm animals and there are some interesting relationships going on, feel free to share those as well!

I'm thinking that the dog is gonna get it from the electric fence against his curly tail.
No steering from the procreation topic.
GET TO IT!!!!!
Hmmm...I think I like danishes. But then again...it depends on what kind of muffin you are talking about. I just had a fabulous chocolate chip muffin the other day that was pretty darn good! ;)
Tauna - I know... I keep thinking Burley is going to get shocked, but he never does. I think his thick fur must insulate him or something.
FJM - That is a tough dilemma. You think you have your mind made up, but then a chocolate chip muffin steps in and changes everything! ;) p.s. - Was it a chocolate chocolate chip muffin, or a white muffin with chocolate chips? Inquiring minds want to know.
My two boy dogs are dead set on impregnating my female dog. Even though she's only 3 months old. My lab is lucky 'cause she's his girlfriend but he's too dumb to realize that yet and he still lets the little rat (rat terrier, that is, even though he is really just a rat) mess around. If I were the lab I would bite the rat's head off every time he looked at my girl wrong! (The female is also a lab.)
There, I think I covered both topics in one. Farm animal relationships AND the thought of BABIES!
White muffin with chocolate chips. Mmm!
FJM - Ok, so... Have you tried a CHOCOLATE muffin with chocolate chips? I think that may have to top my list of favorite muffins and danishes combined.
LOL I love your pictures. Ours horses and dogs act the same way, especially Diesel. He always wants to play. :)
As for relationships, well they are as complicated as you make them in my opinion. I've found over the years the more open you are about things, even if you think it may make life complicated at first, in the end, things actually seem simpler.
And as I had a chocolate muffin on the train this morning I'm leaning that way. ;)
Hi! I know Flying Jae's Mom, and she told me about your site. I'm excited to take a look at your photos and recipes and "ramblings." :)
