Reconnecting... And a brush with death... sort of.

It's 'hump day' for Burley's week-long hiatus from work.

(Actually, he might have to stay home next week too if there are a lot of spring-breakers again, but SHHHHH! Don't tell him that.)

The depression continues. He's dark and moody like that.

Yesterday when Mr. Blue Eyes got home, Burley snuggled up next to him on the floor. Ahhhh, all was right with the world again.

On the flip side, the babies and I and Burley and our lovely neighbors went for a long walk yesterday, which seemed to lift his spirits. It lifted my heart rate and my spirits too, until I learned that we happened to walk right by a mountain lion kill unknowingly.

We were making a loop and met some other neighbors along the way who were making the loop in the opposite direction. When we met again on the way back to our respective houses, one of the other neighbors told us that we had walked right by a deer lying down in the ravine, and he could see where the lion had dragged it (drug? dragged? not sure) across the road from the other side.

The road that we had just walked across! Our feet tread where a lion's feet had just tread! I don't like that.

O.k., may not 'just' tread... I suppose this act of nature occurred hours earlier. Who knows? All I know is that it made me uneasy. Thankfully we were much closer to home and much farther away from the site when I learned of it.

Mom, if you're reading this, it's o.k... We're all safe and sound. And I'm pretty sure I won't go walking these mountain roads again for a long time.

I'm such a chicken.

I'm pretty sure mountain lions like to eat chickens.

(Shudder.)

I don't blame you! I'm chicken too. My brother used to live in Santa Cruz, and being a runner, he'd go out into the woods all the time. He has so many lion stories. I still shudder thinking about it.

I'm glad you are all safe and sound :)

That is frightening. Glad you are safe! Mountain Lions are very beautiful, but I wouldn't want to meet one in the wild. We had one run in front of our vehicle just a few weeks ago near twilight. That is about as close as I care to get.

I have never actually seen one (unless you count a couple times when something dashed across the road while driving at night that may have been one... they're elusive, that's for sure) and I kind of would love to see one from the vehicle, like you. Not while I'm on foot, and not with my kids, that's for sure!
