Realities of Situations
November 30, 2010 Reality #1: If you leave me alone in a house with the remnants of a birthday cake, nibble by nibble, chunk by chunk, I will eat it.

I need to get better at sending cake home with guests.
Reality #2: Snow days are the best.

As long as you don't have to go anywhere.
Which I don't.
Which actually isn't all that unusual.
But for some reason it seems more special when it's a snow day.
Reality #3: As soon as I saw this bike...

...and agreed to buy it for Little Blue Eyes' birthday, I knew some sort of injury was imminent.

Within two hours of assembling it, Miss Peaches acquired her first black eye.
For some reason it seems to fit her.
Reality #4: Christmas is exhausting me already.
A couple of weeks ago, you might recall I was all gung-ho to start decorating. My gung-ho-ness has fizzled. But the reason why is because I'm trying to wrap up the gift shopping as quickly as possible, so that we can focus on the real 'reason for the season' in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
This would imply that I'm going to be done with the Christmas shopping sometime soon.
Which is probably inaccurate.
But I do have quite a few gifts purchased already, so from here on out I can afford more leisurely shopping for the rest and (hopefully) not be too overwhelmed by it.
I do have to say that I am in love with online shopping. It helps me keep a clear head and think through my purchases.
And not go anywhere, which ties back into reality #2.
Reality #5: We got 5-8" of snow last night.

I'm packing up the family and moving to Boca Raton.
I realize that this is in complete opposition to reality #2.
Yet I feel both realities quite strongly.
Reality #6: My kids insist on running around in t-shirts and shorts.
I'm using this as an excuse to pretend I'm living in Boca Raton.
So it all works out.
Reality #7: Cake and coffee go really well together for breakfast.

It's totally normal for kids to be running outside in shorts and T shirts. Remember the Indians used to chip ice away in the winter to the river so they could through their kids in there to toughen them up.
That's just what you are doin'
You ROCK as a mom.
Oh, the cake turned out really good!! If I ever get into making my own cakes I might steal the idea. (Most likely I won't get into it though, so no worries!). I envy the "working at home" option you have, as I did not do so well this AM on my drive... hence why I am at home checking blogs right now and not at work and my car has hopefully been towed to the body shop and I got a ride with a state trooper this AM =( I agree too, you ROCK as a Mom.
Reality #1 the cake looks fab
Reality #2 have been known to eat birthday cake for breakfast before too
Reality #3 I now officially have my annual dose of snow envy
Boca Raton's current weather: 82 degrees!! I need to go turn the heater up around here...
The cake looks amazing--way to go you "mom that rocks!" :)
