Prep

I'm thinking... Thanksgiving.

And I'm also thinking... Birthday party.

(Little Blue Eyes' b-day is coming up shortly. 5! How the same heck? But I'm not going to go down that rabbit hole right this moment.)

This year, for Thanksgiving, we decided to keep it casual and hang out here at home. A few family members may stop by, or they may not. We're casual. We're so casual, in fact, that I've decided to spend Thanksgiving day doing the cooking at a leisurely pace, and having our meal for supper. I just can't fathom getting it all on the table by noon.

I also think it will be fun for the kids to help out.

Or not.

Whatever they feel like.

We're that casual.

Despite my casual attitude, it all isn't going to fall into place without some thought and preparation, which is where I'm at today.

For thanksgiving, I'm thinking... Turkey. (Of course. But I do hate preparing turkey. But in recent years I was informed it was one of Mr. Blue Eyes' favorite Thanksgiving dishes, so... Yes. Turkey.) Scalloped potatoes. (Yes, I'm going to buck tradition and do scalloped instead of mashed. But trust me, these scalloped potatoes are worth a little tradition bucking.) Sweet potato casserole. Stuffing. (Maybe... I might skip it, depending on what the hubs opinion is.) Pumpkin pie. 'Berry Thankful' pie.

I've made this 'Berry Thankful' pie -- a blueberry, cranberry, orange zest concoction -- the last two years running, and I've tweaked the recipe each time. I think this year I'm on the verge of getting it just right for your recipe viewing pleasure. Not that I'm good at all at posting recipes on my cooking page. Let's see... My latest post is for salsa. And the post before that? Is from... last Thanksgiving!

Uffda.

In regards to the birthday party, I've been instructed... Macaroni and cheese, and chocolate cake. That is it, and that is all. Little Blue Eyes is easily pleased. I urged him, however, that perhaps we need a few more food items to round out the meal, so we've agreed upon bar-b-ques, and I'm hoping I can talk him into a salad or some sort of veggie.

Definitely not potatoes.

If you try to feed him potatoes, he will run screaming in the other direction.

So, prep.

Yes.

Prep.

Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely!
I will spend the day in the ER. Our family celebration will be on Friday. The whole 9 yards.
I'm exhausted thinking about it.
I do think I will buy ready to cook crusts. I KNOW! Ultimate in lazy.
That's why I'm coming over here.....to drool over your pie crusts.

I hope Little Blue Eyes has a good birthday!

Enjoy the prep.
