One Piece at a Time

About a ten days ago we moved out of Ladybird Lodge and over to our soon-to-be home. My in-laws are still living there for the next week or so, until we can get their new home ready and things moved over.

I can’t help but keep thinking of that Johnny Cash song ‘One Piece at a Time’ in relation to this whole process. Moving is arduous in almost any case. When you’ve lived on a farm for 40+ years it’s a daunting task.

Thankfully, they had a farm auction about ten years ago and sold a lot of old or no-longer-needed machinery, so all that is left is some miscellaneous keepsake pieces, one good-old all-purpose tractor (for scooping, blowing snow, etc...) and my father-in-law’s collection of old tractors. He has twelve. They’re kind of like the old cars that we went to see awhile back, each with their own special character.

Some of their stuff is moved out, some of our stuff is moved in, but most of it is somewhere in the middle. Every day I have to tell myself that we are one day closer to being settled in than we were the day before. In the meantime, though, it’s good to learn how to be somewhat content in unsettled circumstances. Each day I try to look at the positive and be optimistic about moving forward. Each day I try to take joy in the little things, especially our children. Each day I try to remember that we can find peace in the Lord, no matter what is going on around us, and that God has good things prepared for those that love Him.

I bet you will be sooooo glad to be settled. Hopefully it won't be too much longer for you. I'm sure you are ready to throw down some deep roots. It sounds so wonderful to be near your familly. It also sounds so wonderful to be living on a farm. I wish we had chosen to stick it out.
Praying for your speedy settling!
