New Knowledge
October 6, 2010
Each day brings new ideas, opportunity for learning, and general growth.
Or confusion.
But I'm sticking with 'growth' for tonight. It makes me feel like all these random life experiences are actually moving me forward or outward or inward or something.
Anyhow, I have learned a couple of things in the last few days that I thought I would share with you...
First off, the above picture is of choke cherries that were planted along with the apple trees at the orchard we were at the other day. I asked what they were for, and the nice lady informed me that they helped with the pollination of the apple trees. Isn't that interesting? Nature is so interesting. They were quite busy, and my pea-sized brain can only hold so much new information in one day, so I didn't ask her exactly how it worked. I just believe that it does. And they're perdy.
And at this point I'm a little uncertain that they are actually choke cherries, and that she may have called them something else. I can't exactly remember.
(This is where the 'confusion' part seems to take over the 'growth' part. Forgive me.)
(Plus, we all know you don't come here for accurate and/or educational information. So I think I'm well within my limits of rambling conjecture.)
Anyhow, I just thought I would share that pretty picture with you first, as the other things I have learned recently are considerably less... appetizing.
(Why are there so many unappetizing things in my life?)
(It's a wonder I ever eat at all.)
(But I do. Just ate a big helping of this a couple hours ago. I highly recommend it. With half 'n' half on top.)
(I digress.)
(I use parentheses too much.)
(((((((Moving on.)))))))))
Yesterday I learned that if your new black lab, Henry, starts nuzzling you lovingly when you're crouching down, and then attempts to crawl on your back, you're about to get humped.
Poor Henry. He's freshly neutered. This is a very confusing time for him. I don't judge. I also don't crouch down in front of him anymore.
Last night I learned that if a watermelon has a small hole in it and is oozing out a strange yellow substance onto your counter, it is about to burst. We did not realize this until late last night, after said watermelon had already burst. And even though Mr. Blue Eyes did a good job of cleaning it up last night, he didn't realize that a lot of it had oozed behind our sink and made a trail onto the other side of the countertop, all around the coffee pot, toaster, dishes and other items sitting there, and was what I awoke to this morning.
This prevented my usual early-morning coffee intake.
Not good.
I also learned that a rotten watermelon smells much more foul than one might think it would.
Today I learned not to let little kids flush too much toilet paper down the toilet. I'm not going to go into anymore detail than that.
This evening I learned that, even with starting your work day with stinky rotten watermelon ooze and ending it with plunging a toilet (and being splashed with toilet water) while nursing a nasty tension headache (tension? what tension?), having your husband come home and tell you that you look good can magically make it all go away.
All this learning. I feel so gosh darn smart.
And somewhat stinky.
I guess knowledge comes at a price.
