My Heart

So.
Mr. Blue Eyes and I usually don't exactly do much for Valentine's Day.
Or birthdays.
Or Christmas.
We just always figure our money will be better spent somewhere else. Maybe that's right. Maybe that's wrong. As I get older, I realize that maybe it is important that we start to do more for one another. To take time to make some sort of gesture that says we love one another, and also to show our children how to show love for others.
But we're still kind of behind the curve on that one, because we let Valentine's Day slide by pretty casually this year... A couple nights ago we went out for supper at a nice Chinese restaurant while we were on a grocery run, looked at each other and said, "Hey, this is our Valentine's date. Sound good to you? Me too." Then we went to the most romantic of places...
Wal-Mart.
While at the Wal-Mart, we once again looked at each other and asked, "Are you going to buy me a card? Because if you're going to buy me a card, I'm going to buy you a card. How about we skip it and save ten bucks? Agreed."
It's just how we roll. We don't get to wrapped up in monetary displays of affection.
(And in case you've forgotten, he does the dishes for me every night. I'll take that over roses any day.)
So, today, I didn't expect much. We said, "Happy Valentine's Day," to each other this morning before he left for work, and had our usual good-bye smooch for the day.
(It should be noted that I am usually only slightly conscious for our usual good-bye smooch. Somehow this makes it all the more magical.)
The kids and I had a wonderfully normal day, and had a fun little time making these...

...for our daycare mamas.
(Notice the tank tops. Evidently my kids live in a land of perpetual summer.)
And these...
...just for us.
This evening Mr. Blue Eyes surprised me with a single rose and a box of fudge. Then he insisted that we watch our wedding video.
We laughed.
I cried.
We revisited the carefree celebrations of our youth.
Little Blue Eyes and Miss Peaches could not have been less interested. But Mr. Blue Eyes and I watched with fond memories, shared a couple more smooches, and even a nose rub.
I love it when a good Valentine's Day sneaks up on you.

Holidays,
Mr. Blue Eyes

My hubby and I are much the same, not making too big a deal about Valentines. But hey - he cooked dinner for me that night, so I was a very happy camper :-)
