Love the One You're With
June 19, 2010
I think it's safe to say Elsa has been well-received as the newest member of our family.
I think it's safe to say we've all pretty much fallen head-over-heels for her.
I think it's safe to say I love her almost as much as if she were one of my children.
(One of my children whom I leave outside to chew on sticks, sleep under a bush and basically fend for herself.)
And even though her transition into becoming part of our family has been wonderfully easy and natural, there are some of us who have had to adjust to the idea a bit more slowly...
I think this picture sums up their relationship perfectly.
Him: Patient but disdainful regard. Commanding of respect. Refusing to budge.
Her: Careful and respectful submission.
There are really only two things that stop him from chomping her like a bacon flavored dog treat: 1) knowing that the smack would be laid down on him (by us) if he hurt her; and 2) knowing that it is highly likely she will someday outweigh him.
For my part, I just try not to let her steal his thunder too much, and reassure him that he still holds the key to my heart.
'Cause he does.

Love how he's looking at her - doesn't want her to get too close. : )
