I Can't Even Tell You
May 19, 2010 There's so much to tell you that...
I can't even tell you.
I don't even know where to begin.
I don't even know if I should begin.
Do you all get as excited about tree caterpillars as I do?
If not, I've got other things to tell you as well, so hopefully you won't be bored. But it's all pretty much garden-related, so if that particular subject matter doesn't make your skirt fly up, you may as well stop here.
If you're skirt is flying up, let's continue on.
And let's use a numbered list. It's the only way I can think of to organize my thoughts at the moment.
There's just so much to tell you!
#1: I've decided to expand my garden. It now looks like this...
Hah!
Oh, hee hee, ha ha, ho ho ho.
Snort.
Just kidding.
#2: The tree caterpillars... I noticed the other day that some of the foliage on one of our apple trees was all eaten up and the leaves looked like little doilies. Today I looked online, and after clicking around for awhile, I finally concluded that the problem was most likely tree caterpillars. Then I went back out to the tree and took another gander, and guess what... Tree caterpillars! I'm not really happy that they're there, but I'm happy that I correctly identified them, and can now deal with the problem.
#3: The spinach is sprouting! The lettuces are sprouting! The onions sprouted weeks ago! Flower beds are planted! The potatoes are sprouting! (If you were around here a couple weeks ago, you may recall that I was having serious anxiety about the potatoes. It's all okay now.) The only thing that isn't sprouting yet is the carrots, but I planted them on the edge of the garden near the road ditch, where the grass is trying to creep back in, so it may be crowding them out. I'm going to plant some more in a different location, so here's hoping...
#4: I've hung two hummingbird feeders and one oriole feeder. Every day I gaze out the window and anticipate their arrival. You know how they say a watched pot never boils? Well, a watched hummingbird feeder never gets any birds. Until tonight! I was crouching down beneath the feeder checking on some flower seeds I'd planted, and I heard one right over my head! I didn't actually see it, but that's just a minor detail. It was either a hummingbird or a mammoth bee. I'm betting on the hummingbird. Into the evening air, I whispered, "That's right, little fellow. Now go and tell your friends."
#5: Miss Peaches is sick with a cold. That makes me sad. And tired. And sleep deprived.
#6: Miss Peaches seems to be feeling better. That makes me happy. And hopeful for a full night of sleep.
#7: The garden has been re-tilled, the date of our last frost has passed, and I'm primed for planting. I even drew out a graph of how the garden will be planted. I needed to. I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Now that I have a game plan, I feel much more relaxed. As soon as I have a spare moment (hopefully this weekend) I will be out there sowing seeds!
#8: I've been online looking up information on everything, from tree caterpillars to raised beds to dandelion control to mulch and everything in between. I think if I start one more sentence with, "I was online and I figured out...", Mr. Blue Eyes might disown me.
#9: You all are right... I need to get busy with some before and after photos! I apologize for the lack of eye candy in this post. Here I am gazing upon it daily, and I'm too lazy to share it with you! Actually, I've just been too darn tootin' busy to grab my camera. All these new projects sure are a lot of fun, but they're also.... um... a lot of work! I'll make a point of taking more pictures from here on out. I've been such a slacker. I'm sure my average has dropped from like 400 per week to more like 200. I'm hanging my head in shame.
Don't disown me, please?

Glad to hear Miss Peaches is feeling better! Flying Jae's bro has an appetite now but still crabby. I'm puzzled. Hummingbirds remind us of helicopters cause they can hover so they are one of our favorite birds around here. :)
Well, I can relate to being sleep deprived due to a sick little one lately too. I never knew runny noses would prohibit sleep in my 11 month old son until we spent one too many wakeful hour together on the couch. ;)
LOL - I had to laugh at your proposed expanded garden. Good one.
We'll be hoping that you see some orioles soon! They're my favorite! Sick kids are no fun, mine just got over a crazy virus a few days ago! Hopefully Miss Peaches is 100% soon!
Wow - busy girl! Can't wait to see the pics!
Can't wait to see your garden. We went ahead and planted a little one. Just planted last weekend. And I meant to comment on the dandelion control. If you figure out a something that meets all your criteria PLEASE let us all know. I will submit your name for the Noble Peace Prize for gardening.
