How Things Have Come to Be
April 22, 2009 If you missed yesterday's post about how I have found myself in the lovely position of getting to go visit the Pioneer Woman this coming weekend, click here.
If you're wondering how this all came about, read on...
Sometimes we find ourselves in places that we had not expected we would be. Take this weeked for instance... I'm going from here...

... to here...

(Photo above by PW.)
As you can see, the place I'm going is significantly less lumpy than the place I'm currently in.
As much as I love the mountains, I'm totally good with spending some time on the Oklahoma plains, especially if it means I get to visit Pioneer Woman's ranch and be part of a special cooking day with Deb and Alex from Smitten Kitchen! Oh yes, I'm so totally good with all of this.
The crazy thing is, as we are beginning our layered move to MN in less than two weeks (for more information on that, click here and here and here) I didn't even enter this particular contest over at PW's site because I thought that, on the off-chance that I happened to win, it probably wasn't a good idea for me to go anyhow, as we're up to our eyeballs in moving logistics and preparation.
However, when you're a hungry horse and a carrot is dangled in front of your face, you go after it. Me: hungry horse. Pioneer Woman: carrot.
(Sorry, PW, to refer to you as a carrot. I'm just trying to paint a picture here.)
By some crazy coincidence, my niece, who is one of my best friends in the whole world (she's a year older than me... I'm the youngest of ten siblings... her dad is the oldest... I'm sure that's as clear as a mud puddle... I'll share more about it later) happened to win, and she invited me to go along with her! By default, Miss Peaches has to come along, as she is still nursing. So, we three ladies are headed to OK this weekend.
I'm trying really hard not to continually bust out into show tunes from 'Oklahoma!'
Could I be anymore lame?
You know that phrase from Brad Paisley's song... I'm so much cooler online...?
I'm... so... not... cool. Online or off.
Before this crazy development I did a decent job of hiding it, but I fear it's all over for me now.
Thankfully my wonderful husband has been nothing short of spectacular, supporting me in this spur-of-the-moment road trip. He and Little Blue Eyes will have a boys' weekend while I am gone. I've never been away from Little Blue Eyes for more than a day, other than when Miss Peaches was born, but I suppose it's about time I started venturing out into the world again, eh?
Thanks to PW and my niece for giving me a good reason to do it.
Of course I will be bringing my camera and computer and will keep things posted along the way. It's going to be fun, fun, fun!
