Hindsight

I didn't want to write about anything drear today, and the fact of the matter is that things around here are definitely drear.

It has been raining almost all week. Ain't no sunshine. But it is melting the snow... which is good... it just kind of leaves things a bit muddy and ugly outside right now.

We've been sneezing and blowing and coughing all week. It isn't pretty. The phlegm... The phlegm is... profound. But the good news is that we seem to be on the mend. Fevers have broken. Bodily systems are realigning.

Mr. Blue Eyes -- who was super-dad, super-husband, super-food-preparer and kleenex-pile-picker-upper -- hasn't gotten it yet. I pray that he doesn't, even though I have the feeling it's inevitable. His exposure to all the profound phlegm was just too... profound.

A year ago, however, things were a little different.

For one thing, there was no plegm.

But enough about phlegm.

Other things -- completely irrelevant of sickness and mucus -- were different too...

Miss Peaches. Miss Peaches was but a little peanut. Well, she's still a little peanut. But she was an even littler peanut then. She didn't yet talk, but she always seemed to have a way to convey what she was thinking quite clearly. She had a little backflow problem, which has since been remedied, thank the Lord.

And we kept her in an old metal stock tank.

"You might be a redneck if..."

Little Blue Eyes. Still hadn't quite outgrown his cheek chub. Blonder. Just conquering the world of potty training, much to the entertainment and/or dismay of the customer service lady at our phone company.

And we also tried to keep him contained in an old metal stock tank.

But he kept escaping.

Burley. Twenty-five pounds lighter. Bringing home the bacon (read: eating it in one gulp as they threw it to him out the restaurant door) as a resort dog. His retirement to farm life has since brought him great joy and great weight gain. One of these days I will have to photograph his love handles and show you.

Me. Feeling the love. Feeling the sadness.

Falling in love with photography...

Running around and taking pictures of just about anything that stood (or layed) still. Thankfully I had a lot of willing subjects...

Baking this...

Bacon wrapped pork tenderloin (with strawberry sauce). There's no link to a recipe for it on my cooking page because I don't feel I've quite perfected my technique yet. As soon as I do, you'll be the first to know. And if I have to make it a hundred times over and eat that juicy, bacon-wrapped pork just to get it right, gosh darnit, I will.

Mr. Blue Eyes. My favorite. My favorite then. My favorite now. My favorite forever. My super-husband-food-preparer-kleenex-picker-upper. Oh, the love I have for that man...

And now, to show him just how much I appreciate all his care and hard work, I am off to thank him with...

Baked goods.

Awesome shots! My word, that bacon tenderloin made my mouth water. And those cuties in the water tank, too sweet. I know the phlegm is terrible for everyone right now but it too will pass. You live in an amazing place with a couple of cuties. :)

You are really tempting me to drive to MN for some of that there pork stuff and cupcakes. Keep it up girl!
Love the pictures. I think the kids are growing a little fast....what do you think?

Yes, they are growing WAY too fast! But you know what? I wouldn't trade their current selves to have them back at any younger age, either.

I do give them coffee every morning to stunt their growth, but it doesn't seem to be working. ;)

Ok, so now I'm feeling REALLY hungry! Impressive cooking girl, and sweet pics of your lovely family. You live in a beautiful place too.

Hope you all continue to get better quickly.
