Game Day

Saturday was a different kind of day.

A big day.

A game day.

It was game day for the Minnesota Twins. Only the second (pre-season) game they have played on the brand spankin' new Target Field, as a matter of fact.

It was awesome.

But it wasn't just game day for the Twins. I like to think of it as game day for our little family unit as well. We were originally planning on taking Little Blue Eyes (his first game!) and his cousin, who is a little older. Miss Peaches was going to stay with her auntie, the cousin's mama. However, at the last minute, the cousin got sick and it didn't work for Miss Peaches to go stay with them, so guess what our change of plans entailed...

Miss Peaches tagged along.

That's right, people. We took a three-year-old and a one-and-a-half year old to a major league ball game.

So you can see why I say it was 'game day' for us as well... To pull off this little endeavor, we had to have our game faces on. We packed snacks and extra outfits and books and beverages and whatever else we could think of to ensure that we came out of that day as winners.

Our day began by driving from our rural farm country home in Podunk, MN to the sprawling, larger-than-life Mall of America, where we caught the Light Rail (i.e. Metro Transit Train) to Target Field.

Not exactly sure where the light rail was at the mall, we unwittingly parked at the wrong end, and thus had to schlepp our little ones all the way across the mall. It was a rookie mistake. But we did take a quick detour through Camp Snoopy (the amusement park inside the mall) on our way.

We didn't have time to stop and go on any rides, the kids are kind of too little anyway, and Mr. Blue Eyes and I get motion sickness just watching the rides go around in circles, so... No rides. Not that day.

After burning four thousand three hundred seventy two point five calories each, we finally made it to the train station at the other end of the mall...

At this point it's important to mention that Little Blue Eyes l.o.v.e.s Thomas the Tank Engine, so riding on a real life train was a BIG deal.

Oh, my sweet, sweet boy. Every time I look at this pictures, my heart is so happy I almost cry.

Both kids fell asleep on the train, and when they awoke, we were here...

Target Field.

Naturally.

I mean, why wouldn't you fall asleep and wake up in a major league ball park? It happens.

Even though we were busy parents, keeping the kids happy and entertained, and couldn't really sit back and take it all in, it was still... totally... awesome.

Miss Peaches quickly caught on to the idea of clapping and whoo-hoo-ing along with the crowd.

My camera lens and I were mesmerized with all the beautiful scenery and athleticism.

And then, just as quickly as it began, we were on our way home again...

...and on this day...

...we were winners.

And so was our team.

The end.

So fun! You are a brave woman. I get stressed out taking mine to our local minor league games, and we never make it through 9 innings. It's still fun though!
I can't believe how big Miss Peaches is getting! : )

As hard as it is to bring them with, I think it is great for them. Leaving them home is great for mom and dad. Balance is good. The kids learn so much tagging along to everything from shopping at the grocery store to going to the game. Keep giving them adventures to enjoy!
