Fashion(dis)able

Right now...

Knee-high socks. (With a hole in the heel.)

Super thin long sleeve shirt. Dark grey.

Somewhat thin knee-length cotton bathrobe. Light grey.

Mint green, soft long johns. Random holes here and there, but they're double layered, so not all holes go through both layers. But some do. Not sure where these holes come from in the first place.

Underoos.

And that is all, my folks... The entire ensemble of my current state of being.

And I couldn't be more comfortable.

I was thinking about this today, as I went for a walk down our gravel road. I was dressed in a different ensemble, also kind of mismatched and random. And for some reason, it made me think about how I'm absolutely the most happy when I'm wearing a completely random and somewhat worn-out smattering of clothes.

Why is this?

Do any of you feel the same way?

Jeans and a t-shirt? Sure, I'll wear that. But it doesn't quite feel like 'me'.

Sporty sweat pants and matching top? Sure, I'll wear that. I'll wear that a lot. I do wear that most days of the week. But it doesn't quite feel like 'me'.

A beautiful, flowy, floral print dress? Sure, I'll wear that. Not often, but I will. And I'll even feel lovely and feminine for the little while that I wear it. But it doesn't quite feel like 'me'.

Mismatched worn-out shirt and sweater, old pajama pants (a hole or two doesn't hurt), cozy socks and no bra? Oh yyyeeeaaahhhhhhhh... That totally feels like 'me'.

For some reason I feel that you should know this; that it should become part of the knowledge of the outer stratosphere. So there you have it.

And the perfect footwear for such an ensemble? Would have to be these...

Logically.

My sister gave me these for my birthday. She knows my tendencies too well; how I'm prone to be wallowing in the mud, but don't mind being a little flashy while I do it. With all the mud and dampness around here, I was totally in need of a good pair of mud boots. The kids had been wearing theirs all spring. But poor Mr. Blue Eyes, he needed a pair too, but we were dragging our collective feet in getting him some.

I felt a little guilty when I got these flashy ones for my birthday.

(Not really.)

Then he made me put them to good use, and all the guilt melted away...

Our horses got out one cold and wet Saturday, and after wrangling them up, we realized that they had ripped up the electric fence something fierce. Part of the fence that was ripped out was in the temporary pond in their pasture, due to the spring flooding.

"Alright, Mrs. Mudboots," he said to me. "Time to put them to good use."

Since he didn't have any mudboots, it was put to me to wade out into the pond and put the fence back up.

(Does the word 'wade' apply when the water was ankle deep? I think it does.)

My poor mud boots and I... Soon we were standing in this...

It was a lot more wet and squishy than it looks.

And we were headed into this...

At this point I would like to point out I had the presence of mind to stop, tromp back, and hang the camera on a tree branch, lest I take a bobble in the mud and water.

I just think it's important that I point out when I have the presence of mind to do something like this.

It doesn't happen all that often.

And I didn't fall in the water, just so you know. But I did come quite close.

It took a little doing, and a little wimpering... At one point, while wading in the ankle deep, freezing water that was on the brink of spilling into my pretty boots, I think I spouted out something about, "Why do we even have this horse fence running through the water anyway?" to which Mr. Blue Eyes somewhat rolled his eyes... but eventually we got the fence back up and the unruly brumbies back in containment.

I promptly went to town and bought him his own pair of mud boots.

Then I came home and slipped into my holey mint long johns.

And all was once again right with the world.

The end.

You are one fashionable woman!!!!
I'm trying not to have envy. They look totally comfortable.
Even better with horse poop.

I think you should have taken a picture of you and your cute self in your ensemble!
