Farmer Gal Ramble #9

The spring air... It is getting to me. Filling my senses. Like a night in the forest. Like the mountains in springtime. Like a walk in the...

I think you get the picture.

There is much to tell...

Blue Skies, Smiling at Me

Our world of white, white, white has finally, finally, finally melted away. I can't tell you how happy me and my retinas are. When I took Miss Peaches to dance class the other day, the landscape looked like this...

This is a stark contrast to the last time I tried to take her to dance class (I say tried because we actually couldn't make it there because the roads were so bad) about a month ago, when the roads looked like this...

Since we had to turn around and go back home that day, and either Mr. Blue Eyes or my sister have taken her to class since then, she's been convinced that I simply can't make it there. When it worked out for me to take her the other day, she questioned whether or not we'd actually get there.

I get no respect.

To Answer a Question

A couple weeks ago, Cate in New Zealand had some questions about our snow and how it is we manage to go on with our lives in spite of it. I thought I'd answer her question.

And then I shall never, never speak of winter again.

Until it approacheth again.

But until then, I shalt not speak its name.

Except to answer Cate's question: Are the roads all cleared for you, or are you able to make your own way to church through it all? Forgive my ignorance, but this type of weather is totally foreign to me!

Yes, the roads are cleared for us by snowplows. However, this doesn't happen until each storm has subsided. So, when the winter wind is blowing and/or the snow is falling, it is very common for activities to be canceled/postponed, and for schools to either start late in the morning (to allow the snowplows time to get out and clear the roads) or cancel completely.

I, for one, think that we should all just go into hibernation mode and not be required to go anywhere all winter, but the educational and industrial systems don't seem to agree with me.

These Two Yayhoos

It seems that we are finally breaking free of the winter cycle of having cold after cold after cold after stomach flu after cold. And let me tell you, these two, in their free and easy healthful state, are completely full of the dickens. They're like two different kids. The other day they informed me that their names are 'Roger' and 'Anna Millie'.

I'm not sure what to do with this information.

'Spiraling Out'

Recently, I heard one of the characters on General Hospital use the term 'spiraling out' on several occasions, rather than using the entire phrase 'spiraling out of control'. I thought, "Really? Is that going to be the new catch phrase now? Spiraling out? Please, no."

However, I am saddened to say that this catch phrase comes to mind when it comes to my latest obsession... Garden plans.

I'm totally spiraling out.

I've got seed packets like nobody's business, already in my possession, and a whole bunch more on the way. And two fruit trees.

My back hurts just thinking about it.

Yet I can't stop myself.

I guess if you're going to 'spiral out' about something it might as well be vegetables.

Tally

In the past two weeks Burley has killed four raccoons (that we know of) and eaten one pheasant.

He's an animal.

And he's spiraling out.

Not really. I just wanted to try using that phrase. He does seem to have a bit of indigestion, however.

Well, me and the two yayhoos are off to fill up our senses some more before the day is done.

Thanks for answering my question :-) I have a few blog friends who have had heavy snow this season, and have wondered how you all cope. You must be so excited at being able to plan your garden now -if it is anything like last year's it will be wonderful!

My tulips are sprouting leaves, the Robins are flocking to our yard and it's been raining on and off...I feel it is safe to say, Spring is here! :)
