Crash (Computer)
July 30, 2010
I thought I'd better put the (computer) in the title, or you might have a little heart palpitation and think that we were in some sort of crash, since I haven't written in SOOOOO long. Like a month!
When I said I was taking time off until Tuesday, was I not clear that it would be a Tuesday far away in the future?
My computer crrrassshhhhed. And we've been so preoccupied with summer fun and the daily grind, that it has suddenly been almost four weeks ago already! Where does the time go? I'm pirating my mom's computer for the afternoon, but I did make the call to computer dude this morning, so here's hoping that my trusty little laptop will soon be on the mend.
I'm so excited to be back visiting my blog. Is that weird? Is it weird that I enjoy reading myself? I'm especially thankful for my little site here at the moment, as I'm in limbo as to whether I've lost all of my pictures and such (music!) that is on my current computer. Thankfully all of my blog stuff is safe on the world wide web. Relatively speaking.
No, I did not back up.
Yes, I know I should have.
Yes, I have an external hard drive.
No, I did not use it.
Don't ask me about it again. I don't want to talk about it anymore. And it may lead to an emotional breakdown the likes of which none of you wants to be around for. I'm hoping the computer dude will just tell me I need a new processor or something, since I got a new hard drive last year, and I'll be on my merry way.
I don't know why I feel the need to call him the computer 'dude'. I've never met him. But for some reason I think of all computer savvy guys as somewhat dude-ish. I just needed to say that.
I feel like I'm rambling. I don't know if you can sense it, but my fingers are typing really fast. I'm just so happy to be here! There's so much I want to say! We've been busy... Visited my brother one day in central MN; visited my sister at her lake cabin on the 4th of July; started getting a few veggies out of the garden (green beans, peas, beets, and a watermelon that seems to be on steroids); had a birthday party for Miss Peaches; workin', eatin', prayin', lovin'. And for me, I think a touch of heat exhaustion. I don't handle the humidity very well.
Oh, and rescued Keeper from the depths of a dredge ditch in the dark. I won't tell you about that now. It needs its own post. All I will say is that I fashioned a sling out of the bobby pins I had in my hair and a thatch mat that I made out of ditch weeds, and now I feel I'm qualified to be called the female 'McGyver'.
O.k., that's not really quite how it went down. But it was something like that. I'll be back to tell you about it later.
Because I WILL be back! It was good to have a little time off, even if it was unintentional, but now that I'm here and reading and writing, I'm SO looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Life without computer and internet is a good thing to do for awhile, but in the long run, I wouldn't want to live without it. Do you know what I've been having to do, in the absence of my computer?
Well, for one thing, when I think something, I just have to keep it inside. I don't have the option of trotting over to my computer and spilling it out for the whole world to read. And if I called my sisters every time one of the dogs ate horse poop or I thought my husband looked cute on a snowblower, they would disown me.
But not you.
And another thing... Since I can't take as many pictures as I want and download them onto my computer, I have to be conservative (gasp!) about how many pictures I take, so that I don't go over my 285 picture limit on my memory card.
What has my life become?
I joke. It's good to laugh at our dependence on technology. And it's good to know that I can survive without it. And it's also good to know that I am blessed to be able to have access to it. And I should use that power for good, not evil. Like a super hero.
Like a super hero female McGyver.
On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be allowed internet access. I lose my head a little. Bear with me... I've had to hold all this inside for a really long time.
See you SOON!

So great to have you back! Sorry to hear your computer crashed. We had that happen too...we still have the hard drive hoping that maybe the pics can be retrieved. It is such a horrible feeling. Now we have an external hard drive that we load all of our pics on to. I have considered an online storage site too...as an additional back-up for my back-up! :-)
Great to have you back in blog-land :-)
I'm glad to see you back. I was out for a couple of weeks due to class and just could not stay on top of everything. But I did notice you hadn't posted anything in a while. Good luck with the computer. Tech is fun but sometimes it's a nuisance too. ;)
I have missed you my country girl friend!
Sounds like you've been busy and you've got lots of catchin' up to do!
I'll pray for the computer dude!
