Close, So Close
April 24, 2009 Ahhhhh... Here we are, nestled into our clean, comfortable and affordable (it even says so on the sign) motel room for the evening. It has been a long but good day of travel. The morning started with a glorious sunrise...

Did I not tell you it was glorious? It was. It was glorious. The Colorado mountains were beckoning me not to leave. "Stay here," they said. "We're glorious. Why would you want to go anywhere less glorious than this?"
Luckily I resisted their whisper in my ear and Miss Peaches and I met up with my niece and off we were on the road trip adventure of a lifetime. Yes, it was epic.
And did you know that 12+ hours on the road makes you start to really believe that yes, indeed, the mountains were talking to you this morning and that a relatively mundane drive across the high plains was what one might refer to as 'epic'?
It's the tail end of a long day and I'm a bit punchy... If I'm more random and ridiculous than normal you'll have to forgive me.
The good news is that Miss Peaches, Maesa (my niece) and I still seem to be enjoying one another's company, and even though Maesa just ate the last of my Snapea Crisps, we're still on speaking terms. Actually, we're a little bit too much on speaking terms. My jaw is a little bit sore from all the talking we did. By the last stretch of the trip we were getting a bit delirious and goofy, and somewhere along the line broke out what my friend Michelle over at One Ordinary day likes to call 'the ugly laugh'.
I would tell you what it was all about, but you see... It's only funny when you've been driving for 12+ hours and are all hopped up on Snapea Crisps, adrenaline, and the anticipation of a day at Pioneer Woman's ranch. If you don't have that perfect recipe going on, the humor will be lost on you.
And I forgot what we were laughing so hard about anyway.
It turned out that the wind actually was sweeping down the plain, so much so that they feel the need to put up hoards of these in some places...
I love windmills. Old and shabby, new and ginormous. They're just so cool.
The highlight of the trip, other than the good company and Miss Peaches' relatively amicable demeanor, was the intensely emerald green landscapes that became increasingly more frequent the closer we got to Oklahoma...

I could bump up the saturation to 100% on this picture and I still don't think it would do it justice. It was so amazingly vibrant. I was a little bit astounded, I just wanted to get out and roll around in it, especially since less than a week ago it looked like this where I live...
I like to think of it as 'the land that springtime forgot'.
No, I'm kidding. I love my mountain home, especially now that all of the snow has melted and the mountains have started talking to me.
I seriously need to get some sleep.
O.k., just one more picture, because she was such a good little traveler and I know there's a certain someone out there who is missing her tonight...

Now I'm off to bed. I think I've sufficiently covered the highlights of the day and managed to diminish your opinion of my mental state in the process. It has been a fulfilling day.

p.s. Sorry for the less than stellar picture quality today. When you're traveling down the interstate and trying to focus through bug smear, they just don't seem to turn out as good. Maybe they make a special lens for that.
p.s.s. See you tomorrow with pictures (hopefully not masked by bug smear) from PW's lodge!!!

Oh my gosh! You made me chortle! Yes, I said chortle. I certainly didn't expect an ugly laugh reference in a post all about your traveling adventure. Too funny.
That wee girl of yours is something else. I can't believe she still looked so serene after 12 hours in the car. My kids would have been red-faced, eyes swollen from crying, and generally a mess. She's a real trooper.
Looking forward to your next post.
Have fun for the rest of us!
Glad your road trip was a fun one! I am sure that there will be lots of laughing to come today! Enjoy every minute of it!
I'm anxiously awaiting an update from PW ranch! Glad you traveled safely and had a good time! Totally immerse yourself in this and then WRITE about it on the next post OK? I'm living vicariously here!
Sounds like a successful road trip. I saw a picture of Peaches on PW's site! She looks like a happy camper!
I love windmills, too. In the California desert it is almost mesmerizing, watching them! Anyway, have a great time and can't wait to read all about it.
Sleep well, Farmer Gal, you have a big day tomorrow! Thank you for keeping us posted on your travels. Feels like we are along for the ride with you! Your pictures are just fabulous, so no need to apologize for them. Love seeing the different landscape....See you at P-Dub's!
I found you from Pioneer Woman's blog... I am super jealous of your visit with her, I wanted to sign up for a chance but I knew I couldn't make it that day... What I did want to ask you was were those windmills on I-40? If so those are not far from where I live...
I hope you get your computer fixed, I completely understand how that feels.
Have a great week!
