Autumn's Cliche
September 17, 2009
I started off writing this morning with a serenade to all of the things I love about fall… The beautiful colors, the crisp air, apples and cinnamon…
B.o.r.i.n.g.
Fall itself isn’t boring, but me writing about it definitely is. Because we all know what it’s like. I don’t need to tell you.
I mean, who doesn’t love fall? I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t at least like fall, if not love it. Summer can be too hot for some, spring too muddy, winter too cold. But fall? Fall really gets it right, as far as seasons go.
Fall has the burst of fleeting new colors, the donning of favorite sweaters and coats, the perfect chill in the air that gives our cheeks a rosy glow… Fall’s got it goin’ on.
My favorite thing about fall, though, is how it seems to sloooooow us all down. The hectic pace of summer goes to the wayside and we all settle into a more regular, predictable routine. Our summer urge to run wild is now tempered by shorter days and cooler weather.
So, here I am, trying not to write about all the things I love about fall, but I guess I couldn’t help myself. It’s just to splendid. Hope ya’ don’t mind.
