A Tale of Two Pioneer Women - Part 3

A Tale of Two Pioneer Women - Part 1

A Tale of Two Pioneer Women - Part 2

I always hoped that I would have a daughter.

I love, love, love Little Blue Eyes with as much as I think my heart can handle and if I had five more exactly like him, I would die a happy mother without regret.

However, as I have three sisters, am close with my own mother and nieces and other women in our family, I know what those familial-womanly relationships are like. They're special.

So, even though I was completely at ease with the thought of the Lord blessing me with only sons, when Miss Peaches came into the world I was so pleased to think that someday we would have that same special relationship that I share with the other women in my family.

Even though she is still less than a year old, I think she 'gets it'... When Marigold (Maesa... who doesn't so much appreciate the nickname 'Marigold' as it turns out, by the way... I've got to rethink her floral persona) called and told me we were headed to see Ree and Deb (a.k.a. Pioneer Woman and Smitten Kitchen), let's just say there was a little bit of excitement... in the air... like maybe a little jumping... and laughing... and squealing... and deep cleansing breaths... and more squealing.

Let's just say... Maybe. Maybe that happened.

Maybe not.

But maybe it did.

O.k., it did. THERE. I said it. I acted like one of those people who they show on t.v. winning the Publisher's Clearing House contest or getting an extreme home makeover.

Even though I don't believe that celebrity is better than any other kind of life and I think famous people are just people like all the rest of us, I dropped my basket for a moment.

If Ree and Deb were to be reading this they would probably say that they don't think of themselves as famous... But ladies, you ARE. If 25,000+ people tune in daily to see what you have to say, you enjoy at the very least a modest level of celebrity.

So, anyhow... What was I saying?

Oh yeah... Miss Peaches.

So, Miss Peaches was in the room when all of this craziness came about, and at first she started to cry a little bit, because after all, what in the dickens was wrong with her mommy? But then I calmed myself and she calmed herself and I swear to you, she was as excited as I was! It was like she just knew that it was something good and fun and special.

And so it was for the entire adventure. The girl knows to have a good time.

Traveling...

Sitting on the deck of the Lodge...

Playing with P.W.'s jewelry...

She even was so accommodating as to take a nap back in one of the Lodge bedrooms right at the time that Deb began her cooking demonstrations so that I could enjoy the show. She's such a thoughtful daughter.

I always hoped that I would have a daughter, but I never knew just how good it was going to be. I love my little girl.

What a really beautiful post.
My mom says every woman should have a daughter. I never believed that until I found out we were going to have a little girl of our own. Now I think it's so true. : ) The bond I have with her is different than the one I have with my son. I love them both with such intensity but there's something to be said for growing up in a family of women and then having adding your own daughter to that legacy.
When my menfolk go off to work and school, my baby girl often says, "Well, Mama, I guess it's just the girls." I love that.

She is absolutely precious and how wonderful of you to put into words (and pictures) how so many of us feel about our little gals! Thank you!

Awww, she is just so darn cute! I have two daughters (and two sons) and I know exactly what you mean. My heart just busts open with love for my kids! Love your pics of your day and of Miss Peaches...thanks Laura!

What a blessing that she got to share in your adventure! Such a little doll. I have raised two sons, but was recently given a gift of a granddaughter and I can't tell you how excited I was when she arrived! Especially because she was a surprise when she popped out as a girl! The entire pregnancy the Dr. was telling my son and daughter in law that she was a boy! This grandma made a spectacle of herself with whooping and hollering and jumping up and down!

Laura, I love your way with words. Having a little girl is so precious. I am glad you have both... and I am glad I have both. This way there is no pressure on baby # 3 (when and if that happens!) to be a certain gender. We have to get together again soon. We had fun when you visited a couple of Fridays ago.

I have enjoyed reading about your trip to the Lodge! What fun! I'm sure I would act just like you if I got the chance to go...yes, I'm sure I would. ha
Your daughter is sooo cute. I always told everyone God blessed me with 3 girls because I had to grow up with 6 brothers. And the one sister I had was such a tomboy growing up she might as well been a boy. I truly have enjoyed raising my girls. Not to say I wouldn't of wanted a boy! They are great to. I have already been blessed with a granddaughter. Guess I'll have to hope one of my girls has a grandson for me. ;-)

How fun to read about your adventures. You are famous by associate you know. When you get really huge, remember us!

I'm glad Peaches was a good guest at the ranch! She's sure a cutie!!
I've been lucky enough to meet a few "famous" people in my life and I've always been a bit surprised at how starstruck I am. Then I realize that they are just normal people! :)
