A Little Christmas Catching Up
December 28, 2010
I scoff at myself for putting a title on anything I've written that has the words 'catching up'. I'm behind on just about everything these days! Or if not behind, I'm just barely getting it done on time by the skin of my teeth.
Our Christmas feels like one of those times when there were so many special moments that I just want to hold them in my mind and heart forever, never to forget. Thankfully I got past all my scroogeyness a couple weeks back and let the spirit of the season take over. Even though Mr. Blue Eyes and I don't really exchange gifts, I felt like as the days passed by I received a series of little 'gifts'...
Gift #1: The kids sang 'Go Tell It On the Mountain' at our church Christmas program. It was their first time on stage, singing into microphones.
Gift #2: Our church Christmas Eve service. It was just really nice.
Gift #3: Being able to sing special music at several services. And not having any frogs in my throat.
Gift #4: Visiting with my 91-year-old uncle in the nursing home on Christmas Day. It seems like every visit with him is a treasured moment.
Gift #5: Simply spending time with various friends and family in the last couple weeks. Even though things have been somewhat hectic (it's Christmas... how else would it be?), it has been pretty relaxing.
Yet I'm really tired.
But at peace.
Maybe 'dazed' is a better word.
Gift #6: Seeing both of my kids starting to understand the meaning of Christmas.
There's more to list, I'm sure, but my pea-sized brain isn't functioning on all cylinders today, so these will have to do.

Now it is back to the more familiar rhythm of PBS shows, our usual eating and napping schedules, household chores, and various things going on throughout the week. One more family Christmas party this weekend (hopefully... weather permitting) and we will be catapulting headlong into 2011.
I am quietly optimistic.
How about you?

Holidays,
