Future Gain

I've been thinking lately -- like a lot of people, I suppose -- about money and what we do with it, and how so many of us have been living beyond our means, thinking we'll pay for things we currently have on what we will make in the future, not on what we've already made.

I could go on and on (trust me, I could... I can write endlessly about anything) about why we do it, or at least why I have done it... What it means about us spiritually, psychologically, emotionally, in relation to the atmospheric pressure and our hormonal cycles... Blah, blah, blah.

I could, but I won't. I'm learning that sometimes less is more. (Interesting choice of words for this particular subject.)

All I will say is this: It's a bad idea. Let's not do it anymore, o.k.? Or if we have to do it, let's practice moderation and restraint, o.k.?

O.k. Nuff said.

During one of my many ponderances of this subject while I was telling myself what a bad idea it is, and how it's just so much better to live on what we have on not on what we think we will have, I did realize that there is ONE thing that we can indulge ourselves in banking on for our future: Heaven.

It's the one thing that we can bank on today that we will absolutely have down the road... If you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that is. That's what I believe, anyway.

My point is, the future is so uncertain. I think we can all agree that thus far we've trusted in what we thought was supposed to happen in our collective futures... We were supposed to be successful, make a bundle of money, and in the meantime we were living as if we'd already made it that far.

Unlike wealth or promotions or inheritances or the like, Heaven is certain. Heaven is sure. I'd say it's a good idea to start investing in Heaven right now. Today. Go ahead. Give it everything you've got.

In the meantime, I guess we'll have to settle for a little heaven on earth, which ain't too shabby either...

Just some little slices of my heaven for you. I could get lost in posting pictures of my heaven for hours, especially if I included my babies and husband in the montage, but I've got to save something for future posts.

For the record, YES, I realize that Webster's Dictionary doesn't define 'ponderance' as, well, anything. It's not a real word. But let me tell you this: It should be. I've come up with multiple times to use it along my journalific journeys. I finally just coined it a word for my own personal use. But feel free to use it if you'd like. I'll bill you for the royalties.

What? 'Journalific' isn't a word either? I'm going to have to start my own dictionary.
