From farm girl to mountain mama, and back again...
December 6, 2008 They say you can never go home again, and even though my little family and I actually are going home again, I'd have to say that I think the old adage does hold some truth...
Almost six years ago my husband and I set out from the midwest for life in the Colorado mountains. We were young and blissfully naive. We were looking for something bigger than ourselves and we found it, in more ways than one.
Someday I'll tell you all about that, but for now lets talk about where we're at in the present: still in Colorado, but soon to be back on our way back to the homeland (a.k.a. the farmlands of the midwest). After some adventures here in Colorado (like pulling a satellite dish behind a pick-up truck down back roads in the mountains, much like a sled behind a snowmobile, with two crazy guys in it... someday I'll tell you more about that too) things have changed. For instance, when I say 'mountain mama' I mean it: we now have a boy and a girl. He is two and she is four months. I've gone from a busy event planner at a resort to an even busier stay-at-home mom, watching two kids in addition to my own.
Although we've got a great community of friends and neighbors around us here in Colorado, at this point there's just something to be said for living close to family once you've started one of your own, and we've both got some great family back around those parts.
But, surprisingly, the world did not stop back home after we left (imagine that!) and we also certainly are different people than we were six years ago, so while looking forward to the comfort of being in a place that is all too familiar, there's also the thrill and fear of the unexpected.
There's also the prospect of a fresh start, something we only get so many chances at in life. That's where this blog comes into play: a way for me to share with you all the beauty and comedy of the farm country life that we are about to embark upon, again.
Since we're still in Colorado for a little longer and there's such and abundance of life to share right here, right now, here's a little insight into our surroundings...
