2000 Feet and 20 Degrees
March 26, 2009
That was the difference in altitude (higher) and temperature (lower) as I drove back up to our house from town yesterday. As I rounded a bend about halfway home I saw the layers of mountains just beyond... On the right, beams of sunlight shining down and creating an ethereal haze between the hills; on the left, a WALL of clouds, dark and whispy.
NO CAMERA WITH ME, OF COURSE!
That would have been, what we like to call around here, the 'money' shot. Oh well... It will live on forever in my mind.
And so the snow has begun. Despite the snippets of warmth, glimpses of a sprout of green here and there, and longing for more of the same, I really don't mind this spring storm. I needed one more excuse to batton down the hatches before the long days of summer.
We're supposed to have intermittent (much needed) moisture through next week, so a week from now I may feel differently, but for today this weather suits me just fine.
If you're nestled in somewhere amid more of the same, you might stop in later for a little treat... The FIRST installment of 'The Adventures of Hickory & Hank'!!! After months and months existing only in my head, I have finally managed to get them down on paper. I can't wait to share them with you! If you've stopped in to read about them before only to find that there's nothing there yet, I apologize. I've been working out the kinks in my head for awhile now... Letting the story 'marinate'. But then the other day, you know, when I was supposed to be cleaning, everything kind of clicked into place.
Why does that always happen when I'm supposed to be cleaning instead? Funny how the mind works.
Anyhow, I've got to get their first tale trasferred over here one way or another, and later today they'll be up for your viewing pleasure! I wanted to have a friend edit it for me first, but I'm just too excited to wait, and if you're anywhere with weather like here, it's a perfect day to read, so I'm just gonna go ahead and do it. I'll leave a note on the main page when they arrive!
