Product Testing
February 21, 2009
Yesterday I ran into Whole Foods Market to pick up a couple items. I love that store, but I hardly ever go there anymore. It's just not in the budget these days. However, there are a few things that I like to have on hand that I can't get at my weekly visit to Wal-Mart, so I get to stop in every so often.
While there, I picked up these baking items: aluminum-free baking soda, arrowroot, tapioca flour and aluminum-free baking powder. It was really just on a whim... I was in the baking aisle looking for agave nectar (one of those things I can't get at Wal-Mart) and happened to see these items, which I've been a little bit intrigued with but have never tried, and just grabbed them up.
I thought I'd let you know what I find out once I give them a whirl, so stay tuned. I think it's great when we can all learn something new together. (Or not... Maybe you're a tapioca flour expert. If so, disregard my ramblings on this, my new frontier in baking goods.) And speaking of learning something new, I noticed this phrase on all of the bags...

"Keeps best refrigerated or frozen." Did you know that? I did not. I'm kind of surprised that I did not. But just the same, I didn't. And you know what? I'm going to try it.
My first recipe for this product testing will be for cobbler, a recipe that calls for baking powder, and one that I've made a dozen times or more -- because it's really good and reeeeallly easy... I'll love sharing it with you -- so I'll know if the aluminum-free baking powder makes it taste different than the regular stuff. Cobbler recipe coming soon!
